Apron Care

Waxed Canvas Cleaning

Waxed canvas is our favourite material to work with due its lightweight durability and its ability to meet the test of tough jobs and extreme weather conditions. Waxed canvas can be traced back to European fishermen in the 1800s. When battling the elements on the North Sea, fishermen found they could keep their sails from absorbing water when treated with linseed oil. Not long after that, old sails were repurposed into weatherproof outerwear.

One of the best parts of LAST waxed canvas aprons is that they develop a patina over a lifetime of use - a characteristic you just don’t see as much these days. Wear your apron like a badge of honour and care for it using these simple guidelines.

When your waxed canvas goods are due for a cleaning:

  1. Use cold water and a mild soap, like LAST Canvas Cleaner.
  2. Gently rub the soap with a sponge or soft brush before rinsing clean.
  3. After cleaning, let it air dry.

Never wash waxed canvas with warm or hot water as this will release the protective coating. Also, steer clear of abrasive soaps and detergents and be sure to use a soap fit for the job. No dry cleaning. No machine washing. No machine drying. Roll up your sleeves and give your apron the love it shows you.

Re-Waxing Your Apron

After a few years of hard use, you will likely have to apply a new coat of wax. Products like LAST Canvas Wax will revive the waterproof capability and keep your apron functional when you’re hard at work. Be sure to follow the instructions provided.

Regular Canvas Care

Our cotton canvas aprons may be extremely durable and sturdy, but they’ll still need some attention when dirty from hours of protection. Your canvas apron may lose shape or stiffness if cared for improperly. Follow this guideline to ensure your apron LAST’s a lifetime:

  1. Use cold water and spot-wash with a mild soap, like LAST Canvas Cleaner.
  2. Gently rub the soap with a sponge or soft bristle brush.
  3. Using soft pressure, remove soap and dirt with a wet lint-free cleaning cloth.
  4. Rinse clean with cold water.
  5. Repeat the process until clean.
  6. After cleaning, let it air dry.

Never wash your canvas apron with warm or hot water as this may alter the shape and fit of your apron. No dry cleaning. No machine washing. No machine drying. Roll up your sleeves and give your apron the love it shows you.

Leather Care

Over time, leather loses its natural oils and moisture and will in turn lose flexibility. Properly used, leather conditioners will prevent your apron leather from cracking and keep it looking and functioning great.

Use a quality leather conditioner like LAST Leather Cream on all leather pockets and connection points. Conditioning cream will moisturize and prevent colour change, adding years of life to your apron.
